A rekordbox USB for your XDJ-XZ, written without rekordbox

The XDJ-XZ is the full-size booth in one chassis — CDJ-style decks, a four-channel mixer, and standalone playback from USB. That standalone mode is exactly what Alpha feeds: a rekordbox library written directly to the stick, with your set analyzed, ordered and ready.

What Alpha writes for the XDJ-XZ

Alpha writes a full rekordbox USB the player reads directly: the classic export.pdb library every CDJ and XDJ has read for years, the newer encrypted exportLibrary.db the latest players prefer, the per-track analysis files with beat grid, cues and waveforms, album artwork, and the audio under Contents/<Artist>/<Album>. No rekordbox software is needed anywhere in the chain — the stick plugs straight into the gear.

The beat grid is built from the interpreted BPM, so tracks arrive beat-ready and the player does not re-analyze anything. One limit to know: Alpha writes one constant beat grid per track, so tempo changes inside a track are not modelled.

In standalone mode the XZ's two USB decks browse the rekordbox library on the stick — Alpha writes it in full, both database formats plus beat grids, waveforms and artwork. Channels 3 and 4 take external players or a laptop; the stick covers the standalone half. The same drive works on the CDJs at the next venue.

Common questions about the XDJ-XZ

Does the XDJ-XZ read Alpha's stick in standalone mode?

Yes — standalone mode reads the rekordbox library from USB, and that's exactly what Alpha writes: database, analysis files, artwork and playlist order.

Do I need rekordbox or a laptop anywhere?

No. Alpha writes the rekordbox USB itself on your Mac; the XZ plays it directly on its two standalone decks.

Will the same stick play on club CDJs?

Yes — Alpha writes both rekordbox library formats, so the stick works across CDJ and XDJ players alike.
