What Alpha writes for the Prime 2
Alpha writes a standard Engine OS 3.x library straight onto the stick: the audio files, the interpreted metadata — BPM, musical key in Camelot notation, energy and loudness — and the playlist in exactly the order you built it. That is the format the whole Engine DJ family reads, so the drive plays the moment you plug it in. No Engine DJ desktop session, no re-analysis on the unit.
Before Alpha touches a stick that already has a library, it copies that library to your computer as a backup. Writing adds to what is on the drive — it never erases it — and a track that is already there is linked into the new playlist instead of being copied a second time. After writing, Alpha validates the result and lets you eject safely.
As a two-deck standalone the Prime 2 lives or dies by how well the drive is prepared — there is no laptop to bail you out mid-set. Alpha writes the full Engine OS 3.x library with BPM, Camelot key and playlist order to your USB stick or SD card; the Prime 2's internal drive bay stays device-managed and untouched.

- The Prime 2 reads Alpha's BPM, key and beatgrid straight from the Engine library — no on-device re-analysis, no waiting after you plug in.
- Three USB ports plus an SD slot all read the same Engine library format — prepare whichever medium you prefer.
- Alpha writes removable media only; the internal 2.5-inch drive bay stays exactly as the device manages it.
- Waveforms are drawn by the unit the first time a track loads; a fresh playlist without waveforms is normal, not broken.
Common questions about the Prime 2
Does the Prime 2 need Engine DJ on a computer to read Alpha's stick?
No. Alpha writes the Engine OS 3.x library directly, so the Prime 2 treats the stick exactly like one prepared in Engine DJ — playlists, keys and BPM included.
Importing a rekordbox USB on the Prime 2 is slow — is there a better way?
Yes. Instead of letting the device chew through a rekordbox stick, export your collection as a rekordbox XML and have Alpha write a native Engine library: the BPM, key and beatgrid rekordbox worked out are kept, and there's no on-device import at all.
Can I keep my existing playlists on the stick?
Yes. Alpha adds the new set to the Engine library on the drive and backs the previous library up to your computer first. Nothing is erased.
What drive format should I use with the Prime 2?
exFAT or FAT32 — Engine OS does not read NTFS. Alpha writes onto the existing filesystem and never reformats the drive.
